The York Sub-Aqua is very proud to announce that they will be participating in the 2014 CUGA National Underwater Hockey Championships on May 16-18, 2014. The champion competition will be held at the University of Guelph Athletic Centre, which is located at 50 Stone Road East, Guelph, Ontario.
The event will highlight the Women’s Open Junior Division and the event is asking that any foreign teams that are interested, please feel free to do so as all are welcome to play with exhibition status. The deadline for registration will be May 1, 2014 and the fee to participate will be as follows:
Prior to April 15th, 2014 – $150.00 per person
From April 16th – May 1st, 2014 – $160.00 per person
After May 2nd, 2014 – $170.00 per person
Fees will be payable in advance and can be paid by cheque or email transfer. Please make cheques out to York Sub-Aqua.
All teams participating must be comprised of a maximum of twelve players and only ten players may participate in a game at a single time. Every player must be a registered and up to date member of the Canadian Underwater Games Association. If one is not currently a member, they may pay their fee prior to the tournament which is $15.00 and is payable to CUGA. The 2014 CUGA AGM will be held in conjunction with this event on Saturday May 17, 2014 at 8pm at the Shakespeare Arms on 35 Harvard Road in Guelph, Ontario.
Each registration includes all pool fees, deck food, participation in the banquet, and full program as well as the cost of all medals and awards.
The event is expected to be stellar and the hosting venue has 2 flat, fast bottom pool surfaces that will be available for play in regulation fifteen minute halves for all of the playoff games. Qualified referees will be provided for each of the games and all players will have the opportunity to participate in the banquet and awards ceremony for the event on May 18th, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Players will be responsible for their own accommodations and the Delta Inn is expected to offer group rates. Dorm style rooms are available on campus.
We are also seeking registered level 1, 2 and 3 referees for the event and they are asked to contact the club directly if you are interested in participating. A level 1 refereeing course is being planned for May 16th should you like to attend and Instructional clinics will also be planned following the event on May 19th.
